Situated in sixty-five acres of parkland 6 miles south of York, Queen Margaret's occupies a gracious country house surrounded by attractive purpose-built buildings. Girls live in year groups with Housemistresses. Over 90% of the girls are boarders and enjoy a superb range of extra-curricular activities particularly at weekends. Queen Margaret's encourages excellence in as many areas as possible and while academic standards are high, attention is paid to all levels of ability. A commitment to Christian and academic values has earned it a first-class reputation with a high academic rating (2nd in FT League Tables for Value for Money 1996). Most girls proceed to the sixth form and enter higher education. Well-qualified staff help provide the caring and friendly atmosphere which develops breadth as well as depth of education. The school has excellent facilities for art and design, computing, drama, music and technology plus seven newly refurbished and restructured science laboratories. Physical education is an integral part of the curriculum and Queen Margaret's excels at lacrosse, hockey and tennis. There are six grass and eight all-weather tennis courts, two squash courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a sports hall, a new and enlarged riding school and a nine-hole golf course.
Entry requirements: Entry is by Common Entrance Examination at 11+, 12+ and 13+ based on GCSE results and interview at 16+. The school sets its own Entrance Examination in special circumstances and academic and music scholarships are available at all levels.
The school is a registered charity and exists to provide high quality education for girls.
